How to use this activity
Let’s be emotion detectives
Print The Great Clue Hunt and follow the clues together. Give kids time to look, wonder, and share what they notice.
What clues can you find?
A face, a voice, or the way someone moves can give us clues about a feeling. But a clue doesn’t tell us everything. Ask, “What do you notice?” and “What else could they be feeling?”
Let kids explain their ideas. If you have different ideas, ask what made them think of that feeling.
Try it with a story
Try noticing feelings in a story you’re reading together. “How do you think this character feels? What makes you think that?”
When you’re talking about a real person, remind kids that asking how someone feels is better than assuming we know.
